I recently bought a Canon 400D 2nd hand so it didn’t come with software, and last week simply transfered photos from it, but this week it will not download more than a couple of photos then it says that a problem occurs. when i plug the camera in the only software options it gives me to use are; "AMCAP" which doesn’t even seem to open, and Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard which is what i tried to use when it stated that a problem had occurred. Any help i’m really stumped and need the photos on it for photography class tomorrow. Please help with alternative software recommendations etc.
Thank you
Pete
I might consider getting a card reader, but i need an immediate solution. Also it shouldn’t be doing what it is anyway… should it? all other camera’s i’ve plugged in have just worked on the default downloading software
Stop telling me to use a card reader! Useless for me at the moment
Ok, there are a few possible options that I can think of…
1. use a card reader (absolutely no software needed).
2. download the software (but Canon only provides the update software, so that would be useless if you haven’t got the original software)
3. use Windows Explorer…With your camera turned Off, connect it to your computer’s USB port, then turn it On. Then double click on My Computer or Computer, if you have XP. Your camera should show up under the list of hard drives at the bottom. If it’s there, either double click on it or right click and select Explore. You should then right click on Removable Storage and select Explore. You will then be able to copy & paste or ’select all’ to transfer your images to the hard drive.
4. If that doesn’t work…buy a card reader.
good luck…

What you need to do is to take the memory card out and use either a USB card reader $10 at any store that sells electronics or insert the memory card in your computer if it has a card slot it will fit into. This is a better and faster method for transferring your pictures anyway. You may be able to download the camera software from Canon’s website but I am not sure on that.
